“Black Shark,” the name says it all. This is the first dedicated gaming phone by Xiaomi with top of the line specs. I am #MasterOfSpeed from POCO Crew and today we are going to do a small hands-on review for Xiaomi’s Black Shark!
Black Shark is powered by top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB & 8GB of RAM. It also houses a massive 4000 mAh battery to let you use the beast through a day without any hiccups. This device sports a 5.99-inch 18:9 ratio IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 and 60Hz refresh rate.
Design & Build Quality
Black Shark has a sturdy build quality with an awesome in-hand grip and a design which you won’t notice every day. It’s the trade-mark design of Black Shark with a black & green combo and is extremely eye catching. It houses a USB Type-C port at the bottom with speaker grills which are loud and clear. The power & volume buttons are also tactile and housed properly on the right.
In comparison to a normal IPS LCD display, Black Shark’s screen is saturated & has deep blacks making the images pop out and gives a better gaming experience compared to most other phones out there. To make the device sturdy, Xiaomi went with thick bezels. It lets the user squeeze-out as much entertainment as possible from the device.
Performance & Gaming Modes
Black Shark performs like all other premium smartphones with some extra dedicated modes for gaming. SD 845 does handle the everyday tasks pretty well without any heat, credits to the Liquid Cool Technology it’s using. It helps to keep the temperature in check and lets the SoC perform better. Black Shark also comes with its own gamepad which gives it an advantage over other gaming smartphones. The gamepad availability makes it the perfect device for professional mobile game players. The gamepad can be attached to the phone over USB and has the logo of BlackShark. The buttons can be customized as needed letting the user take full advantage of the gamepad. Joysticks and buttons are tactile and easy to use.
It does the job when it’s needed. It won’t out perform any other premium smartphone cameras but it has its own strength with AI mode which works pretty accurately. HDR mode brings out the shadows and pops out the image. EIS gives another advantage, making videography a pleasant experience. Pro mode is also available and it makes the device a perfect all-rounder.
Black Shark is a perfect gaming phone coupled with its gamepad. It’s snappy with a clean OS and the cameras are great for the price. Gamers can get this device without any second thought and solid build quality will be a plus point.
Black Shark 2 is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and AMOLED screen this time. It got spotted on Geekbench with a whopping 10 GB RAM and 256 GB storage running on 9.0 Pie. It’s expected to launch in April this year in China.
