Hi Poco Fans

People always confuse things with unlocking a bootloader and rooting a device.
  • Unlocking the bootloader lets you install a custom recovery such as TWRP. And by installing TWRP you can install custom ROMs. If you need root access in any of your ROM you need to install Magisk.
  • Rooting the device is done after unlocking the bootloader. Rooting means gaining access to root folders of your android device. This is done my installing magisx on your device

If you don't want root access then you don't need to install Magisx on your device.

Unlock the bootloader - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtI_oQKyQV8
Install TWRP and MAGISK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zw-4n6ElwU4

Install Magisk only if you need root access

Things to remember:
  • Unlocking the bootloader will not void warranty. And you can take the device to the service center at any point within the warranty period for any issues to your device.
  • Turn off SIM card lock before proceeding. Because you need to activate the device by signing in to your mi account after unlocking the device and if you have the SIM lock you wont get the mobile data in your sim card. And you cant connect to the wifi as the Keyboard wont come up at the stage. Just remember to turn of SIM lock if you have one. And be sure to have an active mobile data connection.

At any point, you need to get back to the stock ROM and relock your device check this link - http://forum.poco.in/thread-445-1-0.html
